Acker’s Monster Weekend Leads Rays Alumni

Week Seven of college baseball is already in the books and was once again another stellar weekend fro some Rays alumni.

Joe Acker led all former Rays going 7-for-18 for the week. Acker finished with four runs, a double and three stolen bases as he helped Nebraska to a 2-2 weekend. Acker currently leads the Cornhuskers with a .365 average on the season.

Zach Gilles helped the Central Michigan Chippewas to a weekend sweep of Northern Illinois. Gilles finished the series going 5-for-14 with four runs and three RBIs. Gilles also swiped two bags.

Jack Eagan pitched well in SEC action as Mississippi State took on LSU. Eagan went 4.2 innings in two appearances, allowing one hit and two earned runs. Eagan walked two and struck out eight.

The Lindenwood duo both had great weekends. Ryan Venne and Calvin Nowak helped the Lions to a weekend sweep of Fort Hays State. Venne went 4-for8 with four runs scored, six RBIs, a double and two walks. Nowak finished 2-for-8 with three runs, four RBIs, a triple, two walks and a stolen base.

In two appearances for Minnesota State-Mankato, Zach Gustafson finished with eight innings pitched, five hits, no runs, four walks and six strikeouts. Teammate Jack Brown pitched a perfect inning in relief for the Mavericks.

Ryan Schmitt pitched in three games for Illinois over the last week. Schmitt went 4.2 innings, allowing two hits, no runs, a walk and two strikeouts.

Rudy Rott went deep again for his fourth homer of the year. Rott currently leads Ohio in home runs, runs, hits, doubles, RBIs and stolen bases.

Kian O’Brien hit a big three-run homer in the top of the ninth to tie Kent State’s game with Ball State. It was O’Brien’s second homer in as many weekends.

Connor Wollersheim got the tough loss, going 7.1 innings giving up seven hits, three runs while striking out seven.

Ben Carew still leads Kent State in hitting with a .352 average.

Connor Rutherford hit his second homer in as many weeks as well. Rutherford finished the weekend going 3-for-11 with a run, three RBIs, five walks and a stolen base.

Aaron Mutter got the win for Winona State in the Warriors over Southwest Minnesota State. Mutter went six innings, allowing three hits, a run, four walks and three strikeouts.
