Five Rays go Deep in Great Week for Alumni

Week Six of college baseball is in the books and what a week it was for the alumni of GRB!  Several players cranked out good weeks for their respective universities. The weather is starting to heat up, and so are the bats and arms of so many who once wore the Green and Yellow of GRB.  Check out some of the top performances and notable items from the week:

Rudy Rott went 6-for-19 on the week, including a bomb and six RBIs for the Bobcats of Ohio.  Rott is once again leading the team in the following categories: Average (.329), HR’s (3), RBIs (16), Doubles (7), Runs (9).  

Joe Acker went 4-for-9 for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.  Acker also mixed in 4 RBI’s, a 2B, and a 3B.

Alex Henwood made his return to Nebraska’s lineup after a shoulder injury known, going 3-for-9 with a 2B, 4 BB’s, and 4 runs scored.

Pete Schuler continues his tear in his senior campaign.  Schuler went 5-for-17 with another bomb and 5 RBI’s.  Schuler is second in batting average for Kent State at a hot .338.  Teammate and GRB Alum Ben Carew leads the way for Kent State in the average department at .373.  Carew went 5-for-16 with an RBI on the week.

Connor Wollersheim earned another tough luck loss with another good outing.  In what seems to be a recurring theme on Fridays, Wolly gave up 3 hits in 6 innings, punching out 7, and allowing 2 ER.  For the year, Wollersheim is 1-4 in the W/L column, with all 4 losses coming when Wollersheim has allow 2 or less runs. For the year, the Neenah native is sporting a 2.08 ERA in 34 ⅔ innings, with 40 punchouts for the Golden Flashes.  Hitters are managing a meager .198 against him.

Kian O’Brien hit a midweek homer versus Pittsburgh for Kent State.

Alec Trela went 3-for-12 for Memphis with a roundtripper.

Ryan Schmitt had 3 scoreless innings for the Illini this week.  For the year, Schmitt has a 2.79 ERA and hitters are only hitting .206 against him.

Logan Michaels is leading Virginia as a team with a .365 average.

Jack Eagan had 3 strikeouts in 1.1 innings for Mississippi State, who is ranked #2 in the country this week.

Zach Gilles is hitting .398 for Central Michigan.  That leads Central Michigan. Teammate Jack Collins had ⅔ of a scoreless inning this weekend versus Ohio.

Connor Manthey had 2 starts this weekend for the Bradley Braves, as Manthey has been working to crack the lineup.  Teammate Sam Lund got the W versus Dartmouth, giving up 1 earned run in 4 ⅔ innings.

Sean O’Brien threw a scoreless inning for Saint Louis.

Aaron Mutter got the win this weekend for Winona State, giving up 1 earned run in 6 innings, spreading out 3 hits.

Adam LaRock went 4-for-13 for Madison College on the week.  LaRock had 6 RBI’s with a 2B, 3B, and a HR.

Walker Jenkins went 8-for-18 with 5 RBIs and two 2B’s for the Wolfpack.  Teammate Carl Valk went 5-for-15 on the week.

Connor Rutherford led Lewis by going 5-for-18 on the week with a 3B and 2 RBIs.  Rutherford walked 5 times.

Calvin Nowak went 7-for-14 for Lindenwood with 4 RBI’s and a 2B.Lastly, Zach Gustafson went 3 scoreless innings for Minnesota State, punching out 4.
